Not Every Child Gets a Prize

Eight people arrived at Wolston Park for our return there for the first time since April 2013. We welcomed back Ian Davidson after not seeing him for 21 months, as the game format was chosen as stroke/stableford hybrid. Par for this format would be 16, and with seven pin shots on offer, there should have been enough prizes for everyone.

For the first day of summer, Queensland showed us that the warm days during November was just pretence, and that the real deal was much hotter and dryer. The course was suffering from the drought, with the un-irrigated fairways looking dry and dusty. In contrast, the greens were quite lush and green, courtesy of being irrigated, as shown here when the secretary and treasurer shared a sprinkler head at the 11th green.

Coming out on top in  this small field was someone who walked the course, George Young with 12 points. As often happens this was the only score under handicap, with the runner-up being captain Noel Gilby on 17.

Pin shots went with one each to the two place-getters, other walker Eric Brunovs, president Dennis Hogan and Gavin Muir. Longest drive went to secretary Mick van Bemmel, who encountered suspicion for delaying placing it until the 18th hole. Two pin shots went unclaimed which coincidentally is the number of players who didn’t win anything.

For those that missed out today, we’ve booked this course for two games next year, and it’s not alone in being a golf course that needs a substantial amount of rain to improve the experience. Our next event is next Sunday for the annual BBQ and presentations get-together starting around 11am. The next golf game is the last of the year at Oxley December 15, with a 7:15 tee-off. That event will also host the Annual General Meeting, so raise anything you want to discuss during that.
