Calm, Steady Golf takes the Prizes

Twelve people turned up at Gailes for the first game of Autumn, with no signs that Summer has released it’s grasp on us yet. Stroke was selected as the format for the day, and the field fitted into a compact three groups. The Field featured three local members of the Gailes golf course, but none of them featured in the placings.

In the lead group was the day’s sponsor, Chris Young who returned a solid 74 which unexpectedly took the runner-up prize. Also in the lead group was Matt Hogan, who also got 74 which even more unexpectedly took the win. Chris’ day consisted of very consistent driving onto the fairways and reaping the trouble-free results therefrom.

Matt’s day consisted of very conservative driving, with him only taking out the driver when it was really worth it, such as his impressive strike on the tenth to take out the longest drive, and to give Peter McSherry in the last group something to look at. He also claimed two pin shots, with the remnants going to Tony Armbruster and Ian Davidson.

With no-one breaking their handicaps this day, the captain will hope for some action from our next game in two week’s time, 6am at Redland Bay. It is the Secretary’s trophy, so will include the first round of our annual putting competition.
