Treasurer Twice in a Row

Eleven folks arrived at Gailes for the last round of the annual championships. The golf course anticipated another club filling up the front nine, so they sent us off the tenth, prompting a change of the longest drive hole to the first. All the course works were complete, so there were no remaining temporary holes. Main difference noted was the large bunker left of the fifth green having been split in two, making a walking path to the next tee.

Doing his championship prospects no harm was the treasurer Steve Friedrichs again winning with a handicap-friendly score of 75. President Dennis Hogan gained runner up with his 77. Upon hearing of the win, Steve confessed that there was a nine in his score, while Dennis countered that they’d all had nines.

Our winner also got the pin shot on 12 – it had happened so early in the round that he’d forgotten about it. The 17th went to Chris Young, 3rd to secretary Mick van Bemmel, and sixth to newest member Micky Reid. Longest drive on the first went to captain George Young.

Now that all the championship rounds are complete, the captian will be able to determine who won what. He’ll also be able to calculate the matchplay seedings, so when the information is available, I’ll publish it here. There’re still some rounds left in the annual putting competition, so time left to make a move there.

Next game is in two weeks’ time at Carbrook, hitting off at 6:46 on June 25. See you all there.

Treasurer Takes the Cash.

Fourteen players arrived at Windaroo Lakes including unexpected visitor Micky Reid. An early tee off from the tenth tee opened out into a pleasant autumn morning. The second hole had reverted to a 150 metre par 3, so an extra prize was offered there.

No one beat their handicaps, so a 74 was enough for treasurer Steve Friedrichs to win the day. The golf wasn’t that spectacular, but just involved avoiding the obvious pitfalls of this layout. Runner up with 75 was visitor Micky Reid using his AGU handicap.

Our runner up also got the pin shot on 11, so paid membership for the rest of the year. No one got the pin shot on the second, but 15 went to Tony Mraz, 5 went to the very late Ricky Ong, and 7 went to Eric Brunovs. Longest drive was on 8 and was won by captain George Young.

Next game is in two weeks time on June 11. That 6:30 tee off at Gailes is the last round of the championships so will be a putting round also.
