President beats the Heat

The six am tee-off time at Gailes was appreciated by the field of eleven, as summer-like conditions asserted themselves during the day. The first group was glad to be back in the clubhouse by 10am, half an hour ahead of the last group. The sponsor selected stroke as the event for the day, and Gailes had the third hole out of play, splitting the ninth hole into a par 4 and par 3 to make up the shortfall.

Winning the day was president Dennis Hogan with a 67, five under the adjusted par of 72. Two further back from that was Phil Dacey taking the runner up, helped by three birdies during the day.

Pin shots went to Tony Armbruster, Ricky Ong and Chris Young, with no-one getting on the other one. Longest drive also went to Ricky Ong.

The main game this day was the matchplay finals. A grade was contested between Tony Armbruster and George Young, with Tony winning 7 and 6.

The all-committee B grade contested between secretary Mick van Bemmel and treasurer Steve Friedrichs went to the treasurer, 2 and 1, with the secretary coming back to there from a five-hole deficit.

The next game is in two week’s time on 29 November at Wolston Park, teeing off at 6:30. Many of the members will be attending the Solomon’s Noosa weekend away, so numbers are expected to be down. If you’re not going to Noosa, this is an opportunity to pick up a win from a small field.
