Carbrook a Winter Warmup

Ten people arrived at Carbrook for an overcast morning of golf. I didn’t hear much in the way of results, but many would have considered it as a practice round the for Solomons Matchplay qualifying to take place at the same venue two days later.

Encouraged by that, we’re considering resuming competition starting from next game which is 7:15am, June 27 at Gailes (starting time a little later than previously advised). Covid-19 restrictions are being lifted on a weekly basis, so we’ll be monitoring conditions to see what can happen at Gailes then.

Wolston Blues a Good Thing

Only seven people arrived at Wolston Park for the Sparks booking this Sunday. The overcast weather didn’t detract from the good golfing conditions that presented. The three people in carts were sent ahead as a group, and they shot away from the group of four with three walkers that followed. The group of four took advantage of a quirk in the course layout to play the 10th hole between one and two, so enabling them to skip directly from nine to eleven later on.

The field played off the blue markers, which was quite a change from the yellow/white markers used last Tuesday with the Solomons. The seventh hole was extended into a second par five, as several holes gained some extra bite. Steve Friedrichs had a good game hitting 89 off the bat, the first time he could remember doing that. That’s playing to a handicap of 22, just lower than he’s ever been off with either club.

Next game is in two week’s time at Carbrook, June 14. Scheduled to be a 7:03 tee-off, contact the secretary with your intentions to play, so he can coordinate with the course.
