Small Field at St. Lucia Farewell

Some overnight rain and an icy-cold change gave quite a few people cold feet, as only eight arrived at St. Lucia. We’ve not booked this course for next year, so it’s uncertain when we’ll play here again. The sponsor was unable to attend, but did send through his game preference of Plus or Minus.

Similar to last time, the putting greens had been cored a few weeks ago, and the roll speed was still tepid. This threw off the pace of the lower handicappers in the club, on what should be regarded as an easy course.

Preferring the slower greens, treasurer and blogger Steve Friedrichs returned a winning +6 to take the honours two games in a row. He shared a cart with Allan Gillam, who gained runner-up with his +5. Third was back at +1.

Pin shots went with the first two to Steve Friedrichs, next to Allan Gillam, with the last going to Dennis Hogan. Longest Drive was won by Ian van der Hoeven.

Next game is McLeod at 6:30 on November 6. The BBQ is the weekend after that.

Steve Blows into the Bay

A field of twelve arrived at Redland bay to find it blowing a gale. Two of the matchplay finals would be contested this day, with sponsor Tony Armbruster selecting a stableford contest for his prize. Blogger and Treasurer Steve Friedrichs arrived late, and as punishment was relegated to the second group in the field.

The howling gale impacted the scores, with no-one beating their handicap. Unperturbed by his disrupted start, Steve Friedrichs managed to bag the win with his 34 points,  just ahead of Ian van der Hoeven with his 33.

Pin shots went with Steve Friedrichs on the 4th, Dave Brain on 6th, Steve Gifkins on 13th and Noel Gilby on 16th. Longest drive on 14th went to Allan Gillam.

The B-grade matchplay final will be contested at a later date, but for the other grades, we have A-grade won by Ian van der Hoeven over Dennis Hogan 1 up, and C-grade going to Scott Porter over Eric Brunovs 3 & 2. Like the semis, both of these matches have been won by the original top-seeds, so Dave Brain will have to break the trend when he plays Blair George for the B-grade.

Next game is 6:30 at St. Lucia in two weeks. We’re not booking that course next year, so  if there’s any courses you do want us to play next year, this is the time to talk to the secretary about that.
