Eric Victorious at Oxley

Fifteen people arrived on time at Oxley for the match-play semi-finals. Sponsor Ian van der Hoeven chose Stroke for the game format, so that we wouldn’t spend all day juggling two different indices.

Winner of that prize was Eric Brunovs, with 71 net. As usual, he was the only one to beat his handicap, with runner-up Blair George getting 72.

Pin shots went to Eric Brunovs, Blair George and Ian van der Hoeven, with the long 13th going unclaimed. Longest drive went to Tony Armbruster.

But the big deal of the day, was the match-play. The A-grade 1 vs. 4 match was Ian van der Hoeven defeating Steve Gifkins 6 & 5, with the 2 vs. 3 match having Dennis Hogan edging out Tony Armbruster 1 up.

B-grade’s 1 vs. 4 had Blair George beating Mike Brennan 3 & 1, while the 2 vs. 3 match was taken by Dave Brain over Mick van Bemmel also 3 & 1.

C-grade’s 1 vs. 4 match ended with Scott Porter beating Steve Friedrichs 3 & 1, with Eric Brunovs edging out Noel Gilby 2 & 1.

ALL of the matches went with the seedings, with all of the first and second qualifiers coming out on top.

The finals are scheduled 6am in two weeks time at Redland Bay, but for the rest of us, Tony Armbruster will come up with something else for us to play for.

First Group Scoops the Pool

Sixteen people  including super-visitor Carl Sirianni, rolled up to Carbrook on Father’s day. Unfortunately, there was an error with the starting time on this very website, which caused some people to arrive in a rush – sorry about that! Lured by the Spring weather and Father’s day discount, the players found the course in good condition, yet playing hard.

Mustn’t have been too hard for the first group, as Blair George found conditions to his liking, winning with 37 stableford points. Only the winner beat par, with Eric Brunovs the runner-up on 35, also from that first group. Not all went to plan for them though, as no-one in the first group hit any pin shots.

Pin shots were gained by Dave Brain, Carl Sirianni and Ian van der Hoeven, with the 11th hole going unclaimed, despite having a brand-new tee-block. Longest drive went to Troy van der Haar.

Next game is in three weeks at Oxley for the matchplay semi-finals. Seedings were posted a while ago, so you should already be targeting your opponent with psychological warfare. Might also help to browse the golf rules, as there are some subtle but relevant differences to them during matchplay.

Tee-off time has had a late amendment to 6:40 am, so get there on time!
